Electronic Product Testing

Automated Electronic Product Testing

Automated Electronic Product Testing typically suits medium to large production volumes of PCB assemblies, where rapid and accurate functional testing is needed.

There are many benefits of using an automated test solution for validating the performance, functionality, and reliability of electronic devices or systems. These include ensuring products meet specified standards and work correctly in real-world conditions, before they are released to consumers or businesses.

Static Automated Testing

Spring-loaded test-probes mounted in fixed predefined positions mate with specific areas on the PCB unit under test. During the PCB layout design stage, designers must carefully consider the placement of copper pads (also known as test points) in circuit areas that require testing.

The system is enclosed within a Test Fixture and accommodates multiple PCB modules at the same time within a single panel.

Posts within the fixture secure the panel in place, and a controlled force is applied to the PCBs under test. The lid of the fixture is lowered, gently pushing the PCBs down onto the arrangement of spring-loaded probes, avoiding damage to the board.

Once all the electrical connections are made with the PCBs, then the testing process for individual boards can begin. The probing of individual PCBs is done using a card containing multiple relays, ordered into Matrix. The purpose of the card is to switch signals in or out of different groups or combinations of probes to create the desired test condition(s). Installed at the base of the test fixture, this card operates under computer control, automating the entire testing process.
